ALUVA VARCHE PANI
The pandemic opened new perspectives on my understanding of human behaviour. It allowed me to observe my surroundings and recognize how opinions and behaviours are often linked to one's convenience or inconvenience. The title of my work, "Aluva Varche Pani" (Water Droplet on Colocasia Leaf), is a Marathi phrase meaning evanescent or something that disappears quickly. I wanted to emphasize the insignificance of the act depicted in the painting through this title. During this critical time, one segment of society struggles for survival, while another – including myself – lives a comparatively comfortable life. We view the situation from our windows, on television, and on social media, engaging in futile discussions and debates in our homes as if we were professional spokespersons. This situation brings to mind a Marathi proverb, "sardyachi dhav kumpana pariyant," which translates to "as per the behavioural pattern of lizards, it will never go beyond its territory." Over time, these debates, discussions, and concerns vanish like a drop of water on a colocasia leaf.
